WATCH: THE PLAYERS Championship: Rory McIlroy on his missed cut

It's been a week to forget for Rory McIlroy.

After his runner-up finish at last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy got off to a nightmare start, posting a 76 on Thursday leaving him with plenty of ground to make up.

Ultimately, it was too much for the Northern Irishman, who finished on +5, three shots outside the cut line.
