It's the last Wednesday Night Hockey before the NHL All-Star break. We have three games on the schedule, two of which are national broadcasts on TNT in the United States and on Sportsnet in Canada.

The Ottawa Senators are in Detroit to take on the Red Wings. And we have a Wild Card battle in the Western Conference as the Kings face off against the Nashville Predators.

Ottawa Senators @ Detroit Red Wings predictions

The Red Wings are on fire! They are back playing excellent hockey like they were at the beginning of the season. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and they've beat some solid teams in that time like the Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.

Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond are leading the charge offensively as they have 15 and 13 points, respectively, in their last 12 games. Alex Lyon has been a game changer in net for Detroit. Lyon has a record of 8-2-1 with a .926 save percentage and a 2.51 goals against average in his last 11 starts. He is second in the NHL in both wins and save percentage in the month of January.

The one thing holding the Red Wings back is the injury to Patrick Kane and the effect that has had on Alex DeBrincat. DeBrincat has only one goal and five points in his last 12 games.

Ottawa, on the other hand, continues to struggle. They are currently 29th in the overall standings and last in the Atlantic Division despite having a roster filled with talented young players. They are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games which is a little better, but still not good enough. They've struggled defending and keeping the puck out of their net. Ottawa is 26th in goals against. A big part of that is their poor goaltending. Ottawa is last in the NHL in team save percentage.

The one thing the Senators have going for them is the fact that they match up well with the Red Wings. Ottawa is 8-2-0 in their last 10 games against Detroit, outscoring them 46-25 over that span.

This is a tough game to pick. But I will go with the home team and the team with the better goaltending.

Los Angeles Kings @ Nashville Predators predictions

The LA Kings are in free-fall mode. Since December 20th, the Kings are 29th in the NHL in points and points percentage. In those 19 games they don't have a single player producing at a point-per-game rate. Pierre-Luc Dubois has 8 points in his last 19 games and is a team worst -12. It's a mess.

LA has lost four straight games heading into Nashville tonight and have given up 18 goals in that span. The Kings are also 2-14 straight up in their last 16 games. It's tough to envision them getting out of this rut any time soon with the way they're playing.

Nashville hasn't fared much better recently. They are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and have lost four of their last five. Nashville is 23rd in goals for per game. They lack a game breaking talent up front outside of Filip Forsberg who has 50 points in 50 games this season.

The Predators have matched up well against the Kings as they are 7-2-1 in their last 10 head-to-head matchups. Nashville is the healthier team playing on home ice before a long-awaited All-Star break. This feels like a trap game for LA. Because of that I am going to pick the home team.
