The second round of the women's NCAAB Championship reached a conclusion on Monday, with two one-seeds getting eliminated before the last 16 for the first time since 1998.
The top four seeds are all through in two of the four regions, but 1-seed Indiana have been dumped out in Greenville Regional 2 and 1-seed Stanford have fallen in Seattle Regional 4.
All four 2-seeds are through and only one #3 and one #4 have been eliminated, however, meaning 12 of the top 16 seeds are still left in the competition.
We’ve taken a look over some of the standout performers from the second round before the last 16 games take place on Friday and Saturday.
South Carolina opened the tournament with a 72-40 win over Norfolk State, and claimed another blowout victory in the second round against South Florida, 76-45.
USC is the overall 1-seed and they have made a real statement in their first two games in March. Raven Johnson was perhaps the standout performer in their win over Norfolk State with seven assists, but senior Zia Cooke stole the show in round two with a game-high 21 points.
The defending champions had three players who reached double digits as Aliyah Boston finished up with 11 points and Laeticia Amihere had 10.
Miami are the lowest seeds remaining in the women’s tournament and the 9-seed booked their spot in the last 16 by stunning Indiana on Monday, having seen the men’s team dump out the same opponents as underdogs the previous night.
It is just the third time in tournament history that a school has knocked out the same school in both the men’s and women’s events in the same round, and Miami managed to complete the historic double thanks to a narrow 70-68 win.
Lola Pendande led the scoring for Miami with 19 points and it was a fantastic collective effort from the whole team that saw them claim a huge win, but the moment everyone will remember in the years to come was the game winning shot from Destiny Harden.
Harden’s jumper from in the paint rolled in with just 3.3 seconds remaining as Miami booked their place in the next round, where they will face Villanova.

Toledo pulled off an in the first round as they saw off #5 Indiana State, but there was to be no repeat in the last 32, as they slipped to a crushing 94-47 loss to Tennessee.
The 4-seeds have now scored over 90 points in both of their WNCAAB Championship games and it was a complete team performance against Toledo as five of their players managed to score in double digits.
Quinesha Lockett once again impressed for Toledo and she finished up with a game-high 19 points but it wasn’t enough to deny UT a place in the next round.
Reserve duo Sara Puckett and Jillian Hollingshead were perhaps the star performers for Tennessee as they both added 13 points from the bench, a joint team-high.
Puckett shot 71.4% from the field and made all three of her three-point attempts, while Hollingshead also had four rebounds and three assists in her 18 minutes.
Rickea Jackson finished up with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes, while Jordan Horston had 10 points and eight rebounds and Jasmine Powell had 12 points.
“I'm really proud of our team and how we've played in these first two games,” coach Kellie Harper said after the game, as reported by Yahoo. “I think we've played really well from top to bottom, our starters and our bench.”
