The New York Rangers got revenge on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday while the Edmonton Oilers won their second game in a row to further solidify their playoff positioning.
The Rangers now have the joint-most points in the NHL with 83. Edmonton, third in the Pacific Division, pulled four points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings, and the Oilers have a game in hand.
It’s back-to-back victories for the Edmonton Oilers: their 3-2 overtime win over the St. Louis Blues leaves them third in the Pacific Division.
Edmonton went 2-0 down in the first five minutes of the game.
Right wing Zach Hyman scored twice to take his season tally to 40 and tie the game early in the second period, while Connor McDavid scored the overtime winner.
The Oilers have a 35-20-2 record heading into March and will expect to make it a three-game winning run when they face a fellow Pacific Division side on Saturday, the Seattle Kraken.
The Blues, meanwhile, are five points back from a Wild Card playoff berth and sit fifth in the Central Division on 63 points.

The New York Rangers, who lead the Metropolitan Division by seven points, suffered a surprise loss to the Met's worst team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, on Sunday. The teams played again on Wednesday and this time, the Rangers took care of business after a scoreless first period.
New York won 4-1 on Wednesday, with Artemi Panarin netting two goals and an assist to move into fifth in the NHL in points. Chris Kreider scored a goal and added an assist, and Adam Fox also scored.
Columbus made it a 2-1 game early in the third period with a goal from Cole Sillinger, but two empty-net goal from the Rangers - scored by Kreider and Panarin - iced the game in favor of the hosts.
Columbus is currently 12 points behind the seventh-placed Metropolitan Division team, the New York Islanders, while the Rangers are seven points clear of the second-placed Carolina Hurricanes.
New York is currently the third-favourite at +850 to win the Stanley Cup.
