Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New York Islanders: Odds, picks, predictions, injuries, TV & more

Monday night sees the regular season resume after All-Star Weekend in Toronto, and the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New York Islanders to get the NHL back underway.

The Islanders and Maple Leafs have met twice this season in games which both went to overtime and were won by New York.

Will this game bring more of the same, or will the Leafs be able to collect two points against the Islanders?

New York Islanders vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Predictions

Toronto Maple Leafs to win (-165)

A -165 money line does not exactly scream “value”, but the Maple Leafs have not been stellar against the spread.

These teams are trending in directions that favour the Maple Leafs, though. Toronto has wins in four out of their last five games. In their current three-game winning streak, the Leafs beat the Winnipeg Jets twice, as well as the Seattle Kraken.

The Islanders, on the other hand, have been spiralling a little bit. They have two wins in their last 11 games and four wins in their last 16 games.

They have also dropped their last six consecutive road games. This is the fourth streak of three or more games without a win of the Islanders’ season. They are far from a reliable play right now.

As mentioned, the Islanders have beaten the Maple Leafs twice this season in games that went beyond regulation.

Things look a little bit different this time around as the Islanders are in worse form now than they were in the prior matchups. The Islanders are a fade against a good team right now.

Auston Matthews over 0.5 goals (-130)

Granted, this is not exactly going out on a limb. Based on the odds, Auston Matthews is the most likely player in this game to score at -130.

This is a man on a mission. Matthews has scored seven goals in his last six games which included better opponents than the Islanders. With his current hot streak, Matthews remains atop the NHL with 40 goals.

The Islanders rank 24th in the NHL in goals allowed per game and Matthews has scored 3 goals in the 2 head-to-head games against New York.

He is riding a nice high from All-Star Weekend, is trying to help lead his team clinch a playoff spot, and also wouldn’t mind a Hart Trophy among other potential awards. He'll be playing hard as a result.

Over 6.5 total goals (-110)

The first two games of the season series between the Islanders and Maple Leafs have hit the over with both final scores hitting 7 total goals.

The Maple Leafs have impressive offensive upside, but struggle to keep the puck out of the net. Strong goalscoring and weak goal prevention is typically a good recipe for a higher total.

The Islanders do not exactly light it up offensively, but should be able to get at least a couple by the Leafs given Toronto’s struggles with goal prevention.

The Islanders do not exactly shut the door either. Pure matchup looks great for a third straight over between these teams.
