2024 NHL Draft: Number 2 Overall Pick Odds

Like the 2023 NHL Draft, there looks to be a clear #1 overall selection for Friday’s 2024 NHL Draft, but there is plenty of debate in terms of the next player off the board.

As is often the case when it comes to the NHL, many of the draft picks will come from overseas rather than college.

Despite that, two of the top favorites to go directly after the first selection - which will almost certainly be Macklin Celebrini - are from overseas and a university in the United States.

It’s also important to note that it’s the Chicago Blackhawks with the #2 overall pick, who will be looking to add to the generational talent this is Connor Bedard, who they selected first overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

NHL Draft 2024: Number 2 Overall Pick odds

Artyom Levshunov

Ivan Demidov

Cayden Lindstrom

Anton Silayev

Zeev Buium

Sam Dickinson

Beckett Sennecke

Berkly Catton

Artyom Levshunov -260

The favorite to be selected with the #2 overall pick is Artyom Levshunov, who hails from the Michigan State Spartans. He played just one year at college level after a handful of years with age-based teams and a year in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers.

In his lone season with the Spartans, he recorded 35 points through 38 games, and his 6ft 2in, 205-pound frame will bring some solid size to the Blackhawks defense.

Ivan Demidov +180

While the #2 overall pick odds suggest that Levshunov is the more likely selection, it wouldn't be surprising should Chicago go with Ivan Demidov instead. He'll be coming in from SKA St. Petersburg but, rather than being a defenseman, he would be a left winger that would work perfectly alongside Connor Bedard.

Even with his facial injury, Bedard had a fantastic rookie season, proving that he could shoot the puck well and wouldn’t be shy about doing so. The Blackhawk fans would love to see a young duo that reminds them of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews of old.

Cayden Lindstrom +2500

Next up is a center but, as you can see, there is a significant increase in odds after those first two options. However, nothing is out of the question, and Cayden Lindstrom puts up numbers while adding some flashiness to the game.

Top-tier centers are difficult to come by, and Lindstrom brings great size along with his skilled hands at 6ft 3in, 213 pounds. Keep in mind that the position may make it more difficult to have him on the ice with Bedard as much as possible.

Anton Silayev +2800

The 6ft 7in Anton Silayev is next up in the #2 overall pick odds, and rightfully so. He most recently played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in Russia and is the next defenseman possibility for the Blackhawks.

As much as it would be great to see them pair a skater with Bedard, the fact still remains that they allowed the fourth-most goals per game this past season. Therefore, a big presence in front of whoever they find to put in net would go a long way.

Zeev Buium +6000

Yet another longshot that could head to the Windy City is Zeev Buium, who is another skater that is from a university in the US. That would be the elite program at the University of Denver, and the defenseman played in 42 games for the Pioneers.

In those games, he recorded 50 points, proving he is more of an offensive defenseman than the others on this list. That is primarily due to his size, as he is far smaller at just 183 pounds. Therefore, it’s no surprise that his odds demonstrate another significant jump in price.
