The Boston Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena on Saturday looking to take a 3-1 series lead back to TD Garden for a potential series-clinching Game 5 on Tuesday.
This has become a classic Atlantic Division rivalry, and we’re here to get you set for tonight’s Game 4 with our best overall prediction and player props pick.
We’re still in the early stages of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, but this is one of our favorite picks thus far. This matchup is about as evenly matched as we could ask for, and getting the Leafs on home ice at such a reasonable money line price should not be passed up.
We don’t need to worry about them winning by multiple goals or even within regulation - just get the job done in any fashion. The Bruins may have enjoyed a multi-goal win in Game 3, but that does not tell the whole story of how that game went.
Boston and Toronto were tied midway through the third period before Brad Marchand broke the deadlock, and ultimately, grabbed an empty-netter for a 4-2 win. Not only was it tied late in the contest, but the Leafs were actually the ones who struck first with a goal by Matthew Knies.
The Leafs’ have also demonstrated their mental toughness in this series already, bouncing back from a brutal 5-1 Game 1 loss by winning Game 2 in Boston.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see these teams trade wins all the way to a Game 7, so the Leafs money line is the best bet for tonight.
When it comes to making player props, especially during the postseason, it is always worth first looking at skaters on the road team for better value.
Boston’s David Pastrnak is a perfect example of this, as his shots on goal prop is often set at 4.5 shots when on home ice.
That is more than understandable, as he’s become one of the highest volume shooters in the entire NHL. His 407 shots last season were the most in the league by more than 40 shots, and his 382 this year were behind only Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche.
Although he was held to just a single shot on goal in Game 3, we aren’t concerned with his ability to bounce back, especially against the Leafs.
In four games against Toronto this season, Pastrnak recorded 24 shots on a goal, good for an average of six shots per game. Although Toronto are anticipated to bounce back with a win, David Pastrnak recording at least four shots on goal looks a worthy player prop.
