The Legends Stage of this year's CS:GO IEM Rio is underway

Esports: Weekly preview

It is a big week of action in Esports, with the League of Legends World Championship reaching its climax as the headline act.

We also have Counter Strike: Global Offensive hosting the final Major of the year, while VALORANT and Rainbow Six: Siege also have tournaments ongoing. Here is a look at the week ahead, with all the key tournaments, matches and storylines.

Monday 31st October

The second major tournament of the Counter Strike: Global Offensive year begins in Rio, with IEM Rio 2022 set to be one of the most-attended tournaments in Esports history. Brazil has a huge legacy within Counter Strike and this tournament has been hotly anticipated since it was announced.

The action begins with South American squad 9z taking on GamerLegion, while MOUZ against Outsiders is the other early match on Monday. 00Nation, FURIA and Imperial will also have the full weight of the home crowd behind them in their matches against Bad News Eagles, BIG and Vitality respectively.

Saturday 5th November

The Legends Stage of IEM Rio Major 2022 kicks off in South America, with eight teams from the Challengers Stage joining FaZe, Ninjas In Pyjamas, Sprout, Spirit, Natus Vincere, ENCE, Heroic and Liquid.

Natus Vincere and FaZe are expected to do well, but the likes of Heroic, ENCE and Ninjas in Pyjamas can all be considered dark horses in a very competitive stage.

The top eight sides will advance to the Champions Stage, where the tournament switches to a single-elimination bracket.

Sunday 6th November

The curtain comes down on the League Of Legends World Championship in Atlanta and we have an unexpected final. T1 have blitzed their way through the tournament and the South Korean super squad, led by Faker, are hunting for their third World Championship.

They were dominant in South Korea throughout the regular season and, after winning the LCK Spring Split, they only found Gen.G too strong in the Summer Split. They have the most stage experience and will not be fazed by this high-pressure scenario.

They will be facing regional rivals in the final, but it is not the one we were expecting in the LCK fourth seed, DRX. After a middling domestic season, DRX have produced a fairytale run and they will look to cause the biggest upset of them all on Sunday evening.

T1 are -400 to win this year’s World Championship but, at +275, there is plenty of respect for outsiders DRX.

The action at IEM Rio 2022 also continues, with Round 4 of the Legends Stage.
