After shocks and controversy on day one, Saturday's Call Of Duty League action gives the Boston Breach and Minnesota ROKKR the chance to separate themselves from the pack.

ROKKR may have advantage

Minnesota ROKKR made a host of roster changes ahead of the 2023 season and their squad was barely recognizable ahead of their opening match against OpTic Texas. 

They took a 2-1 lead in that particular match but there was high drama after Cammy used a bugged streak and OpTic ultimately forfeited the map and the game in the aftermath.

There is not too much we can take from that particular match, given the end result, but ROKKR looked solid and can only improve as they continue to work Cammy, Afro and Attach into the fold. 

They take on a Toronto Ultra side who are making their debut in the 2023 season. They made minimal changes after a 5th-6th finish at the season-ending championship, with Cammy departing to ROKKR. 

He was replaced by Scrappy and Standy, who made a mixed impression at the ROKKR last season. 

The teams played three times in 2022, with Toronto Ultra coming out on top in two of three matches. Those sort of head-to-heads are difficult to gauge given the roster changes, but Ultra ended the 2022 season in poor form and ROKKR, with a match under their belts, have to be given the advantage.

Debuts for duo

What: New York Subliners v London Royal Ravens, Call of Duty League

Both the New York Subliners and the London Royal Ravens make their 2023 debuts in this match. The market heavily favours the former, who field a squad of HyDra, KiSMET, Skyz and Priestahh - which is minimal changes from 2022. 

The Subliners enjoyed a strong end to last season, qualifying for the season-ending playoffs and a 5th-6th finish was a great improvement after a fairly disappointing year for the team. 

The Royal Ravens were a team who flattered to deceive last season, often producing strong runs at major qualifiers before struggling in the event proper. 

That was on display in the season-ending playoffs, where they exited in last place after a loss to the Subliners. 

London have expanded their horizons for 2023, with Asim and PaulEhx joining the squad. Given the last two seasons, there will be high hopes for the Ravens, but they are likely to need time with their new additions, especially after a slow end to last season.

Breach can shine again

Seattle Surge suffered heartbreak in their opening match versus the Los Angeles Guerillas, losing 3-2 after a devastating 6-2 defeat on Hotel Search and Destroy. 

Given the strong roster that the Guerillas possess after acquiring Arcitys, there is no shame in that performance and it gives plenty of hope that they can show up well against the Boston Breach. 

Breach made a huge statement with a 3-1 victory over FaZe on Friday, losing the opening Hardpoint before reeling off comfortable victories on the proceeding three maps. 

Given how strong FaZe were last season, that performance can only be looked on favourably and they will have all the confidence in the world heading into this match. 

The market has sided with the Surge, but the value may lie with the Breach, who had no issues dismissing FaZe and clearly have made giant strides in recent months.

Legion look to bounce back

Odds: Florida Mutineers +163, Las Vegas Legion -225

Previously known as the Paris Legion, the now rebranded Las Vegas Legion carried on the losing mantle from their former guise with a drubbing by the Los Angeles Thieves in Friday evening’s late game. 

Legion totally overhauled their roster after a tough 2022 season and the likes of Temp, Clayster and TJHaLy make this squad very dangerous. 

They obviously have some gelling to do, given their opening defeat, but that should come quickly given the veteran presence on the roster. 

Florida Mutineers are making their debut after a busy summer, with Brack, Havok, MajorManiak and Vikul joining to complete a brand new roster. 

It is impossible to know just how strong this team will be, especially with Brack and Vikul making their league debuts. 

With that in mind, it is little surprise to see them as outsiders with Legion justifiably heavy favourites, but Mutineers have the x-factor of an overhauled roster and this could be a fascinating match.
