The two best words in sports. Game seven.
Tonight, the Stanley Cup will be awarded to the Florida Panthers or the Edmonton Oilers.
Who is going to win? Who is going to put on a great performance? Let’s dive into it.
The Oilers have all the momentum heading into tonight having won three straight games in dominant fashion, outscoring the Panthers 18-5. Connor McDavid has put on the greatest individual playoff performance in modern NHL history - 42 points in 24 games. That’s a 144-point pace over 82 games. You know McDavid is going to show up and give everything he’s got, but will the Oilers depth players step up to the plate like they did in game six?
The Florida Panthers need their best players to step up and be their best players. There has been a lack of production from the Panthers top players in the Stanley Cup Final. Sam Bennett has four points and is a minus five. Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart have three points each. Carter Verhaeghe has two points and is a minus nine.
On top of that, Sergei Bobrovsky has imploded in the last three games, touting a .793 save percentage and a 5.06 goals against average over that span.
So, it comes down to whether you think the Panthers can stop the bleeding and stop the Oilers momentum. I don’t think they’re going to be able to do that. The Oilers are playing some of their best hockey of the playoffs and the Panthers are rattled. I’m taking the Oilers to win.
As for player props, look for Zach Hyman of the Edmonton Oilers to score a goal tonight. He is primed to score a power play goal in front of the net. As for the Panthers, there is no way Sam Reinhart only scores one goal in a seven-game series coming off a 57-goal season. Take Reinhart as an anytime goal scorer.
