Esports day-by-day: Action begins in Rio

While China's LPL Spring concluded on Sunday, the playoffs are getting started in Europe's LEC Spring season, which is among the highlights of the Esports week.

Also worth watching is the latest big event on the Counter Strike: Global Offensive calendar - the IEM Rio Major.

Taking place in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the event features the best teams in the world of CS:GO and was one of the most popular tournaments in Esports in 2022.

There is also plenty of action for fans of VALORANT and Starcraft II to get stuck into in another crammed week of Esports.

Monday:

CS:GO: IEM Rio Major makes its return

Along with the ESL Pro League and the many BLAST events which take place throughout the year, the Intel Extreme Masters tournaments on the CS:GO calendar are a crucial part of the season and the latest IEM event - the Rio Major - begins this week.

Last year's Rio Major, which was won by Outsiders, spanned two weeks and became the most-watched CS:GO IEM event in history, so hopes are high for another successful tournament this week.

The format is different to last year's event with the 16 teams competing this time starting in two double-elimination groups before six sides advance to the single-elimination playoffs.

There is a prize pool of $250,000 on the table for the teams competing in Rio de Janeiro, where the Jeunesse Arena will once again play host to the playoffs.

Juggernauts FaZe Clan are +300 to win the event with last year's runners-up Heroic available at +350 and Cloud9 +375.

League of Legends: LEC Spring reaches playoff phase

Both South Korea's LCK and China's LPL have finished their spring campaigns but the action is still ongoing in Europe's LEC Spring, which reaches the playoff stage on Monday.

Only four teams remain and Team Vitality are -225 to win their game against Team BDS, who are +163 to prevail. In the other contest, G2 Esports are -900 to get the better of MAD Lions, who are +500 shots to win.

Tuesday:

VALORANT: Double header in Northern Europe Challengers

The VALORANT Challengers circuit is as busy as ever and on Tuesday there is more action in the second split of this season's VCL Northern Europe.

In the first match of the day, Apeks, who have started the season with a 2-0 record, face Coalesce.

And later in the day, VAMONOS are +200 to take down -275 shots who cars?, who also occupied a top-four position heading into this week.

Wednesday:

CS:GO: Time for upper and lower-bracket finals in IEM Rio

The action goes up a gear in CS:GO's IEM Rio on Wednesday as the two finals in each group take place.

Three teams will progress from each section including both teams from the upper-bracket finals and the winners of each lower-bracket final.

In Group A, the teams to keep an eye on include Heroic and Natus Vincere, while in Group B FaZe Clan and Cloud9 will be attracting the attention.

Thursday:

Starcraft II: Onsyde fancied to see off Team Liquid in World Team League

Taking place in Shanghai, the latest season of Stacraft II's World Team League gets underway this week, starting with 12 teams competing in a group stage.

Onsyde Gaming are considered one of the strongest teams on the circuit and at -800 they are fancied to win their opening game on Thursday against Team Liquid, who are +450 to prevail.
