There are many important matchups in Week 16 in the CFL as the playoff picture continues to unfold, and there aren’t many teams who should feel comfortable in the standings. 

This week brings us the Battle of Ontario, mixed in with a West Division mismatch and two intra-division games. Buckle up, it is time to look into what should be an excellent week of football.

Each game offers major playoff implications, and as the season comes to a close each game will become more exciting.  

All four games on the docket can result in major changes to each team’s season. Week 16 of the CFL is almost guaranteed to be a great one, so do not miss out on any of the action.

Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Ottawa Redblacks

Kicking the week off is the Saskatchewan Roughriders taking on the Ottawa Redblacks at TD Place in Ottawa. 

These two intra-division opponents battled once this season back on August 6th, in a game where the Roughriders sneaked out a 26-24 win on home field. 

The Redblacks (3-10) are coming off a valiant road effort against a strong BC Lions team, but they suffered their 10th loss of the season. 

Now on home field, they take on a Roughriders (6-7) team who is desperate for a win. Every game is a must win for Saskatchewan, as their hopes for the playoffs are dwindling. 

Two straight losses from Saskatchewan is not how this team needs to perform down the final stretch. Expect them to show up highly prepared as the road team, and give Ottawa a tough challenge.

BC Lions @ Edmonton Elks

Friday night’s second matchup is between the BC Lions and Edmonton Elks, which will take place in Edmonton. 

These teams have played twice this season, and the Lions are 2-0 with two shutout games. 

BC really wants the top spot in the West Division, and with two straight wins overall, they are making the push. 

Making it three straight wins could be crucial for the Lions (9-4), and taking on a weak team like the Elks (4-10) is the perfect time to earn it. 

Although, the Elks are coming off a gritty win against Saskatchewan, so even though BC has dominated Edmonton all year, they must know they are no pushover with their current momentum. 

Montreal Alouettes @ Calgary Stampeders

For the first game of Saturday’s slate, the Montreal Alouettes take on the Calgary Stampeders. 

Montreal (6-7) heads to Alberta in desperate need of a win, as they are tied with Hamilton for second spot in the East Division. 

While they are the road team, they are facing a Calgary (4-10) team who has struggled all season. 

Calgary has won just one game in the last five, which has them sitting almost dead last in the West Division.

Montreal took home a tight win by a score of 25-18 when these teams played earlier this year, but can they do it again when the stakes are even higher? 

They are going to have to, if they want to continue their push to the playoffs. Look for this to be a close game, as the Stampeders look to play the role of the spoiler.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Toronto Argonauts

To close out the week is the Battle of Ontario. The CFL-leading Toronto Argonauts host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday night for the final time this regular season. 

Toronto has owned Hamilton this season, winning all three games while scoring 107 points and giving up just 47. 

With a heated rivalry between the two, Toronto will be pushing for bragging rights, and the Tiger-Cats will look to earn the most recent win of the head to head matchups. 

The Argonauts (11-1) are sitting pretty with the best record in the league, and the Tiger-Cats (6-7) have lots of work to do with an identical record with another East Division rival in Montreal. 

Toronto does not necessarily need this win, but taking on one of their biggest rivals on their own turf will be a matchup the Argonauts should be ready for. If Hamilton can pull off the upset in a winning effort, it will be a major step towards the playoff hunt they are currently in.
